Water polo match between Australia and USA ended in a tie: Day four – 2012 Men’s Pan Pacs, Melbourne
Australia and USA have remained unbeaten throughout the tournament as their match ended in a draw on fourth day of the 2012 Men’s Pan Pacs at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, on Wednesday, January 11.
The arena was very excited about the match, as two toughest teams of the tournament were going to compete with each other in their fourth water polo match of the competition. Surprisingly, the match ended in a 6-all draw.
The first quarter of the game was pretty exciting, where USA scored two goals and Australia took the lead by scoring three goals, leaving the score 3-2 after first round.
The Australian lead was levelled by USA in the second quarter, where they notched up two goals against Australia’s single goal effort. The score remained 4-4 after first half.
With their astonishing efforts, the American athletes kept control over the ball in third quarter and passed the ball twice in Australian goal. On the other hand, Australian’s tried hard to get in a stronger position but they were able to achieve just one
goal. Consequently, the Americans managed a lead of one goal over their challenging team and the round expired with a score of 5-6.
In the final round, the Australian players geared up their efforts and successfully added a goal to their scorecard. Afterwards, both teams engaged in a furious competition as they intend to break the tie and claim the victory but none of them proved successful.
With the completion of fourth quarter, the match ended in a draw and both teams successfully escaped their defeat.
Both teams have equal points, but USA now stands on top of the overall points table as it has a goal difference of 32 against Australia’s 25.
In addition, USA is now scheduled to play against Brazil in its fifth match while Australia will contend China in its next water polo game.
The crowd went wild with the gruelling efforts of both team players, who tried hard to prove their dominance. Furthermore, the spectators are eager to see both teams winning their next quests of the tournament.
