i watch training of water polo team in pool and their swimming style is different than the normal swimmers. They hold their head always outside. My question is which style builds bigger shoulders. I see water polo players have often more muscles than swimmers. Is this because of this different technique? If yes i will try this style.

  1. I have played for 20 years. Polo players shoulders are bigger because they are throwing a ball. It has nothing to do with swimming. Swimming gives you the square frame, and the use of a ball in polo widens the shoulder because of the constant throwing. Polo players do weights to develop the shoulders to make them stronger to throw harder, hence the bigger muscle. Try some weights.

  2. YES

  3. Swimming in general creates a larger upper frame (your shoulders and chest). Water Polo players use 'head's up freestyle' so that they can mark their players and know where the ball is at all times. When polo players need speed they put their head down for a few strokes. The only difference I can note from being a swimmer and water polo player myself, is that water polo players have stronger necks as it does take a bit of muscle to hold their heads out of the water. I don't believe however, that head's up versus heads down swimming creates larger shoulders.

  4. I play water polo the reason we swim like that is so we can see were the ball is the muscle is because the game is so physical
