Question:

Water pressure in condo?

So I just bought a condo in a high rise building, and my shower has very low water pressure; to the point where its very hard to take a shower in a timely fashion. I tried installing a Waterpik shower head, but that didn't change the pressure that much. Water is included in the HOA fees... Is it possible to change the water pressure to my unit, or even better, get the condo to fix it? Is there anything I can do from a legal standpoint?

  1. You didn't say what floor your unit is on, but most tall buildings use pressure regulators, especially on the lower floors where the pressure will be higher.    If there is a regulator on your supply, it might just need to be adjusted.

As for legality, you would need to check with your local ordinances; there might be a requirement to maintain a minimum pressure, in which case you've got the law on your side.

  2. i would remove your shower head and turn on the water to see how much water pressure/volume actually comes out.

from there you will know if you have other problems such as flow restrictors or...

you may have ample water but are restricted by the new and/or old shower head.

  3. Buying a new shower head isn't going to fix anything, unfortunately.  Everythng made these days has the "water saver" feature.  It reduces the pressure so ou don't waist water.  I hate those things.  The only way to fix that is to figure out how to get rid of the water reducers.
