  1. most likely its the check valve stuck open or not closing all the way, pull the dish washer out find the drain hose, the check valve is at the end of the hose at the d w end the other thing to check is make sure your drain hose is placed as high as you can get it before it enters into the drain pipe under the sink. one more thing to check is the drain inside the unit make sure the drain is not clogged or blocked by food or other debris, you may have to remove the strainer to access this drain.

  2. Whirlpool D/W's do not have a drain solenoid, what I have found 99 percent of the time is the check vavle has a seed or somting in it. UNPLUG the D/W and remove the black drain hose at the bottom of the D/W this requires removing the bottom panels. The drain hose is hooked to the check vavle. The check vavle white is about 3-4 inches long and plastic sticking out of the bottom of the pump at a 45 degree angle. Unscrew it from the pump and look inside the hole at this point for the drain is very small and things get caught. I do not know why whirlpool has not fixed this problem yet.

  3. The solenoid on the drain valve is defective or disconnected.

    Look underneath it.
