Water rush up nose when underwater?

i just came across this in my mind. why does water rush up your nose when you are upside down under the water ?

thats a good question. if u put a cup upside down under the water then the air is trapped and cant escape. but if the cup is right side up then the air can escape. the same goes for your nose.

I wear nose clips in the water so this doesn't happen.

you're working against gravity =) the water goes down. your nose is there blocking it. it rushes up, er..down, your nose.

breathe out when you're upside down.
