  1. d

  2. You need to look at the conjugates- acids form H+ ions, therefore they have H, bases/alkalis form OH- ions, therefore they have OH, CO3 also is basic, and salts/neutral substances have none of this.

    NaCl is a salt.

    Na2CO3 is a base.

    NH4Cl is again a salt.

    CH3COOH is an acid.

    Now, pH = -log(H+ conc);  -pH = log(H+ conc)

Therefore H+ conc= 10^-pH. So lower the pH higher the hydrogen concentration, right?

Now in basic solutions, there is less oh H+ ions, so pH naturally is greater, therefore, Na2CO3 which is basic has the highest pH.

Note: pOH is the inverse scale of pH

  3. NaCl is neutral, pH = 7

Na2CO3 is basic, pH is greater than 7

NH4Cl is acidic, pH is less than 7

CH3COOH is acidic, acetic acid, pH is less than 7

The solution with the highest pH is Na2CO3, (b).  It's the one with the pH that is greater than 7.

  4. NH4cl. pH means the Hydrogen concentration and Ammonium chloride is having more hydrogen concentration.

  5. NaCl is Neutral, the nuetral substances have pH = 7

    Na2CO3 is basic in nature,Therefore the pH>7

    NH4Cl is acidic in nature,Therefore the pH<7

    CH3COOH (acetic acid) is acidic,Therefore the pH<7

The solution with the highest pH is Na2CO3, (b)

  6. Na2CO3

  7. Highest pH is NH4Cl
