last night i spilled about 1/2 glass of water on our laptop all of that water didn't land directly on the laptop. but quite a bit did. anyways. I unplugged it and took the battery out...and tipped it on it's side to drain out the water that had gotten into it.....then I did as much as i could to wipe everything down and get any water out from in between the keys. now it is sitting in our back bedroom wiht the dehumidifier running on the highest function. Maybe biggest question is how long do you think i should wait before i turn it on. And then also, have you had a laptop survive a spill?

  1. Dear, water is lot less damaging then sticky fluids like Coke and coffee etc. If it really was only water and it didnt spill on the screen or at the backside of the laptop, you should be fine right now.

I will keep it away from powering on for about 24 hours maximum.

After that turn it on without the battery and use the AC power plug, its better than smoking your battery. When it turns on let it run without you doing anything on it and look for strange smells, smoke or grinding noises, if they show up, TURN IT OFF IMMEDIATELY and get it serviced. Using it again will completely ruin it.

Ok if it went all well without using the battery, then try running it with the battery and see if everything is A-OK.

If all goes well then next time dont drink anything infront of your laptop.

    Hope I helped.

  2. i'd say a few days. to help it dry out put it in a bag with dried rice. the rice will help absorb the moisture.

  3. IF it stood there the whole night, it should be good :D

  4. yes, i spilled water on a macbook and it survived.  a friend told me to put it in a bag full of rice to soak up any moisture, and wait at least 48 hours for it to dry completely and it worked.  you want to make sure it's totally dry before you turn it on, or it would probably fry.

  5. i spilt beer on mine once quite a fair bit it still surviving let it dry out for a day

  6. The dried rice thing is a good idea, also, maybe just try plugging it in to charge. if the battery light comes on, you have at least a LITTLE functionality. I'd wait a day or two to be 100% sure though, but thats me and my paranoia about that kind of stuff.

  7. Sure I've seen them survive, you keyboard might be toast tho, a couple of days should be ok.

  8. I waited 3 days. Kept it in an room with good A/C. Don't try heating it up (hair blow drying it) or you could damage it. Also take the battery out, HDD, memory every component you can and let them dry separately too
