Question:

Water spitting from our AC/Heating system?

I have no idea how to describe this ... but I will give it a try ...

I went into our furnace room -- just a for quick check. I found our cooling/heating system spitting out water in an area that I KNOW shouldn't be coming out.

We have the AC going ...

The white PVC pipe is sending out water from the system into the drain ... which I know is good.

Where the other leakage is taking place is in another area midway up the system ... spitting from an area where there are other piping links ... one which has a red ring around area that looks like another pipe should fit.

Water is spitting and flowing down the exterior of the system along a vent/grate area in the front and going onto the floor.

Its a newly built home -- 6 months.

I know this isn't good and we are no good at trying to figure out the situation.

Any thoughts as to what might be the problem -- so I can go to our home warranty company tomorrow and describe the problem ... or is this an emergency situation?????

Thanks!

  1. Drain backed up and the drain pan is full.

Blow the drain out with compressed air.

If you don't have any,in a pinch you can make a fist and grap the end of the drain ,take a deep breath and blow hard. It works many times.

You can also put a coat hanger in the drain hole in the pan if you can shut the power off, remove the panel, get a flashloight and locate it.Good luck. You can do it.

  2. If you have a home warranty then call them before you do anything. Usually they have their own list of contractors that they deal with.

  3. It may be over condensation...but it sounds like more than that. The other is that there may be freezing taking place. The A/C unit will try to run extra hard to keep it running so the freezing will melt to water. Its a cycle that will just repeat itself until the ice is gone.
