Water. when I turn my brewer on the water seems like it goes back up and comes out of the spout

when I turn my brewer on the water seems like it goes back up and comes out of the spout through the water container. It no longer makes the noise at the begining which sounds like pressure releasing. This happened after using the caribou coffee k-cup which left a lot of coffee grounds, Now I turn on the brewer and nothing happens I hear a click and it shuts off.
