How were the "plumbers" connected to President Nixon?

  1. They were hired to break in to Watergate by several of the white house staffers, and they were not known to Nixon until after the break in.

    Had Nixon at that point disavowed the break in, and let the police do their jobs, none of what subsequently happened would have done so.

    When he decided to cover it up, he was then implicated, and broke the law.


  2. They did 'covert' work for his 'cronies'....!!

  3. In other words, they were essentially hired hands.
