Watering can - watering bottles?

i use 1 litre pop bottles instead of a watering can for my tomatoes,

after i water i refill and put in the greenhouse ready for the next day,

but there is like a green film growing inside the bottle,

what is the green stuff and is it bad for the plants ?

  1. It may be pseudamonas - a bug collected from stale water. The same bug is in the slime underneath soap that has been left.

    I am unsure if it is harmful to your plants, but if you cut yourself and become contaminated with it it can cause blood poisoning.

    Why not wash the bottles out with minimal soapy water, you can use the soapy water for your roses as I do, keeps away the blackfly and doesnt waste the water

    By the way  my mun does the same as you - pop bottles, washing up liquid bottles, water butts underneath the guttering....all helps to save water.


  2. probably algea. No won't hurt the plants.

    Just clean out the bottles occasionally.
