Waterproof/Underwater Camera?

Question

Do you know of any good, durable and not too expensive underwater/waterproof digital cameras that can actually be submerged in the water to take pictures?

Or if I bought a waterproof covering for my current camera would I be able to submerge it into the water? I have an HP R717 digital camera.

Alternatively buy a waterproof camera case from an outdoor shop, we have one and it's watertight to swimming pool depths no problem.

no doubt, get an olympus sw model, I just got 1030sw, very fun and very tough!  no other camera can even match this tank.

Most cameras that are warterproof and digital tend to be a little pricier. Currently only two manufacturers produce anything to that effect:

Pentax:

W30

W60 (announced, still waiting for it in stores here in Canada though)

Olympus:

Stylus 850SW

Stylus 1030SW

The Olympus models are also shock (drop) proof and freeze proof. The difference between the two is that the 1030 has more megapixels, can survive a higher drop, and can also dive deeper.
