Waterproofing Ply wood?

I have a large ply toy box that I wish to waterproof and use outside as a Dog House. What can I use? I have some Exterior Gloss Acrylic... Will 2 coats of that work???

  1. It will work and agree to use a good primer first.  Also, make sure you seal ALL of it...inside and out including edges, not just the part you see.  You need to put a stop to any place where moisture can get in and rot it from the inside out.

Any good exterior paint will work just fine.  If there is already a finish on the box then lightly sand it before you prime and paint.  You also may wish to put it on a few "bricks or stones" to keep it of the dirt.  You CAN place it on the dirt directly, but even with a good paint the portion that is in direct contact with the soil will rot after a bit of time.  You could also purchase a piece of treated lumber or two to lay down as a base under the "new dog house".  But if your dog is a chewer this may not be advisable.
