I have a pool with plywood walls. The areas in which the pool is partially in dirt I want to waterproof besides good paint. Someone told me to use driveway sealant with some diesel fuel mixed in. What do you think? Anyone have any suggestions? Does it make sense to paint around the bottom with the driveway/diesel mix??? Thanks in advance for all answers!

  1. Try "Thompson's Water Seal". It costs about $10 per gallon and will last for a year. Every spring I use it on my split rail fence and spray it on with a pump up garden sprayer that I got at Walmart. My fence is over 8 years old and shows no signs of rot.

  2. PLywood should never be in the ground. A treated ply would of been cheaper in the long run because you will have to replace your ply in the 3 or 4 years because it will rot. Treating it will only slow the process not stop it . Spending a little more would of been much cheaper for you in the long run.

  3. doesn't make sense to me.  drive way sealant and then mixing diesel fuel in with it.  You're going to smell the stuff everyday you go out to swim.  Make sure you have the area dry before you seal it.  If you think you have to seal it, use some min wax or something like that.  If its external use plywood, its not a big thing, but if its internal with internal glue, then it'll come apart eventually.

  4. It needs lot of preparation, cleaning, drying, application of marine epoxy, painting it with epoxy primer paint, then paint it with elastomeric paint.

  5. Marine plywood is a great idea, except it is very expensive. I reccomend finding some old epoxy paint, maybe something being thrown away, or in the corner of ur basement, use it on the wood.

  6. mastic or roofing tar would be better

  7. Why didn't you buy marine grade plywood(green) and save the hassle
