Question:

Watersports Helmet - what are the standards?

I am looking to purchase safety helmets for use in watersking, use on inflatables etc. but cannot find anything listed which details the different standards available. Some manufacturers use the CE EN 1385 standard alongside their watersports helmets but is this suitable for the more 'extreme' watersports or just for canoeing and the like? Have checked out the BSI site but nothing listed. Any thoughts. Thanks

  1. Tricky problem. Insurance is at issue. Helmet manufacturers can't or won't certify these products to be 'safe'or to provide, 'safety'. Poor fits, improper or no chin strap and plastic degradation all contribute to concerns. Inquire at canoe clubs as to their preferences. Ask rafting companies what they supply their customers. Do the same with water skiers.
