  1. I had one and he is an australian terrier, the difference is size for one

  2. Silky Terriers

    If you want a dog who...

        * Is small, easy to carry, and doesn't take up much space

        * Looks like a sturdy short-legged terrier, but with a finer-boned, more elegant build

        * Has a long, flowing silky coat that doesn't shed much

        * Is quick-moving, light-footed, inquisitive, and "busy"

        * Makes a keen watchdog

    A Silky Terrier may be right for you.

    If you don't want to deal with...

        * High energy level

        * Providing enough exercise and activities to keep them busy

        * Suspiciousness and/or sharpness toward strangers when not socialized enough

        * Excitable chasing instincts

        * Stubbornness (mind of his own)

        * High coat maintenance (frequent brushing and combing, or trimming)

        * Barking

        * Housebreaking difficulties

    A Silky Terrier may not be right for you.

    Yorkshire Terriers

    If you want a dog who...

        * Is small, fine-boned, elegant, easy to carry, and doesn't take up much space

        * Has a lovely flowing coat that doesn't shed (one of the best breeds for allergy sufferers)

        * Is lively and inquisitive, and moves swiftly with light-footed grace

        * Doesn't need a lot of exercise

        * Makes a keen watchdog -- won't fail to announce strangers

        * Is peaceful with other pets

    A Yorkshire Terrier may be right for you.

    If you don't want to deal with...

        * The fragility of toy breeds (see below)

        * "Separation anxiety" (destructiveness and barking) when left alone too much

        * Suspiciousness, shrillness, and highstrung temperaments in some lines, or when babied and spoiled, or when not socialized enough

        * Excitable chasing instincts

        * Frequent brushing and combing

        * Notorious housebreaking difficulties

        * Barking

    A Yorkshire Terrier may not be right for you.

    Australian Terriers

    If you want a dog who...

        * Is small, yet tough and sturdy -- not a delicate lapdog

        * Has a natural appearance

        * Needs only moderate exercise

        * Makes a keen watchdog

        * Doesn't shed too much

        * Co-exists with other pets more willingly than some other terriers

    An Australian Terrier may be right for you.

    If you don't want to deal with...

        * The dynamic terrier temperament (see full description below)

        * Providing enough exercise and activities to keep them busy

        * Aggression toward other animals -- chasing instincts

        * Stubbornness

        * Digging holes

        * Barking

        * Regular brushing and clipping of the wiry coat

        * Waiting lists (hard to find)

    An Australian Terrier may not be right for you.

    I'ld say its a Silky terrier x, i don't think it purebred as its ears aren't pointed!

  3. "What's the" difference...?  The Australian Terrier is classified in the Terrier Group whereas the Silky and Yorkie are classified in the Toy Group.  See links ...

    The photo' posted, unfortunately, doesn't show enough of the dog for a positive identification - (your brother is a Cute Kid!).  You will know your dog's breed after you do a little research.

  4. While it is hard to tell from that picture what your dog is ( a standing side profile is best) It appears to be be a Silky terrier. It has the face of an Australian terrier and the coat of a yorkie, and since the Silky terrier began as a cross between these two breeds that is my guess
