  1. Oh dear, I'm like some answer-stalker, aren't I?

I find protests, whether they be violent in nature or not, have "negative connotations"... especially to the people who you'd want to be opening the minds of.

When you think of a protest, you picture .. well.. a mass of people holding signs, stating opinions, right? They are catchy phrases but usually little more than that. There is no FACT saying "[making] love not war" is better (I think so, though ;D)

Demo(nstrations)s, on the other hand, (in my opinion) should be informative. I imagine it wouldn't be as loud, or as intrusive. At demos you would be providing truth to interested parties that are not aware (or too lazy to check it out for themselves).

Eg: A bunch of people at an anti-abortion protest would yell about God or other belief-based things, while at a demo, they would provide some "cold-hard-facts" about abortions for interested citizens to become more knowledgable.

Their definitions are similar, maybe even the same in the dictionary, but I think they've got unspecified differences, if you know what I mean.

  2. I'd say protest falls under demonstration.

A demonstration is like a general display of public feeling towards something that happened, a political decision, etc... Can be violent or peaceful...

I think a protest is inherently violent (a violent manifestation.)

    What do you think?
