  1. VGA is a standard size of display screen, the largest in IBM's line at the time it came around 640 x 480 pixels or 307,2040 pixels.  This is under 1/3 megapixel.  Above that have been a number of sizes given non standard labels, like XGA. SVGA, UVGA.


  2. Mega pixel is a short form for "million pixels".

    VGA is usually used to refer to the resolution 640x480 with between 16 and 256 onscreen colors.

    So technically, VGA is 640x480 = 307 200 pixels, or 0.3 Megapixels.  Note that a "Megapixel" does not refer to color depth, but is typically accepted to be 32bit color.
