Wats the difference between sda and hda in linux?

I thought hda was for standard IDE drives and sda was for SATA. However, my 2 IDE drives are being detected as sda1 and sdb

  1. Normally the sd series is used for scsi drives, and has been adapted to include external and SATA drives. If you are using a raid controlled motherboard this can make ide appear as sd series drives. Also anything non-standard in the way they are controlled.
