Watson anticipates increased workload if two spinners are played – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558, is ready to shoulder additional bowling responsibilities should his side decide to play two spinners during the upcoming second Test of the ongoing three-match Frank-Worrell trophy, scheduled to be played at the Queen's
Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad from April 15 to 19, 2012.
“If there are two spinners it's going to mean my workload will increase a little bit,” Watson said.
The pitch at the Queen’s Park Oval is expected to be spin-friendly, and with the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/S-Shillingford-c2397, the Aussies are contemplating the possibility of playing two spinners during the upcoming match –
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 at Sydney in January 2011).
If put into effect, the decision will result in the dropping of one of the three pacers, most likely http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BW-Hilfenhaus-c1204 as the primary pace options, but the all-round capabilities of Watson are also available.
“There's no doubt from the one-day series leading up to the Test series my preparation physically for bowling has been great to be able to make sure my workloads have gradually increased,” observed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326.
The 30-year-old medium-pacer claimed 8 wickets in 5 innings during the ODI series against the Windies earlier, and followed that up with 2 scalps in 2 T20s. In addition he contributed 2 for 76 during the previous Test match, and was even given a chance to
bowl with the new ball during the Windies’ second innings. Harris was unable to take up his duties on field immediately, owing to his surprising contribution of an unbeaten 68 during the end of the Aussies’ 1st innings, which meant Watson took over.
The all-rounder however, is convinced that it was a one-time chance, and if Australia’s top order performs well, Harris will not need to strain himself to contribute with the bat, and instead can take full advantage of the new ball.
“That was a nice surprise to be able to take the new ball,” Watson said. “I'm sure if our top order does the work hopefully Ryan won't have to bat for as long as he did anyway because there's no doubt he's a brilliant new-ball bowler.”
