http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 backs Haddin for a spot in Australia’s Test XI against South Africa – Cricket News Update
Australian all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BJ-Haddin-c1170 for a spot in the national squad for the upcoming Test series against South Africa, claiming the wicketkeeper batsman looks in fine form to take on the Proteas.
“He's definitely mentally and technically ready to go if that opportunity does come for him in that first Test,” Watson said, who has been playing for the Sydney Sixers under Haddin in the ongoing Champions League Twenty20 in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757. “I have my fingers
crossed for him, and I certainly think he deserves a chance to be able to take on the South Africans.”
“If you saw the way he batted today even, his game looks in great order,” added Watson, who will be flying back home in the middle of the CLT20 after being summoned for national duties. “I think his batting alone looked brilliant. You can really tell even
in his set up whether he's going really good. He's in some serious touch at the moment. And as he always does he keeps very well.”
Haddin, who took over as the national team’s wicketkeeper after the retirement of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matthew-Wade-c1933 was chosen as the wicketkeeper
for the ODI tri-series.
While selectors were initially unclear on their stance regarding Haddin, and insisted that the 34-year-old had been “rested”, it was later confirmed that Wade had taken the spot of ODI wicketkeeper for the national team. The selectors, however, were quick
to point out that Haddin remained the Test wicketkeeper of choice.
Haddin’s spot in the national squad became even more insecure after he was forced to pull out of the team’s Test series against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 earlier this year, owing to personal problems. He was replaced by the promising young Matthew Wade, who scored
his maiden century on the difficult Caribbean surfaces – a massive 106 in the third Test, with which he made a strong statement regarding his capabilities in the longer format of the game.
Haddin is currently captaining the Sydney Sixers in the ongoing Champions League T20 in South Africa, where the team is as yet unbeaten and has a strong chance of making it into the semi-finals. Haddin has played a key role in his team's successes, managing
solid performances with both bat and glove in the series. Meanwhile, Wade recently registered a solid performance for Victoria in the ongoing Sheffield Shield, managing 7 catches and scoring a fluent 89.
With an all-important Test series against South Africa due to commence this November, skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 is faced with the need to make a choice between Haddin and Wade, although he claims he has not reached a decision yet.
