Watson scores century as Australia end on 224/5
Australia finished the first day of the first Test match against India at 224/5. The match which was being played at Mohali saw the pendulum swing from one team to another before the Indians seemed to have got off on top of the Aussies by the time the stumps
were drawn.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Virender-Sehwag-c95429 in the gully and the Indians went
on to pay a huge price for the same. MS Dhoni would drop Watson again later when he was on 37 and the Australian opener went on to punish the Indian bowling with an unbeaten century by the time the stumps were drawn.
Simon Katich had no such luck as he was declared lbw by the umpire off the bowling of Zaheer Khan as the Aussies slumped to 13/1 in the fifth over.
However, the tempo of the game changed when Ricky Ponting, the captain of the side, joined http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ishant-Sharma-c64566, who
bowled seven no-balls and put the home team on the back-foot.
What aggravated the problems for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 just looked on. That was hardly the end of the Indian troubles as Ishant then had to retire hurt and did not come back on the
field for the entire day – leaving them with only three bowlers on the park.
Ponting and Watson got to their fifties in the second session and looked to be piling on the misery on the Indians. Australia had reached 154/1 in the 42nd over and with a tiring Indian attack, flat-looking track and one bowler short, it looked like they would
be able to get the score to 350 by the end of the day’s play without the loss of too many wickets.
Instead, some strange tactics saw the rest of the Aussie batsmen go into their shells and only 70 came off the last 48 overs of the day’s play. Watson did get to his 100, but Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 took 39 balls for 14 while Michael Hussey made 7 off 76 deliveries.
By the time the day had ended, Marcus North was also castled by Zaheer Khan and the Aussies had hobbled to 224/5
