Watson gave up his bowling in order to be a consistent member of the national side, something which he has been unable to do in an all-round capacity over the past year or so. Most of his fitness issues were related to bowling, which culminated in an unhappy
ending during the home series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
After sending down almost 48 overs in the opening Test against Lankans at Hobart, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 to explore other options
in a bid to find the right balance for a tough tour of India.
While http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Moises-Henriques-c2021 truly established himself as a player of all-round capability, scoring half-centuries in either innings, Australia certainly missed Watson’s uncanny knack of breaking partnerships. The first Test eventually saw the tourists being
defeated by an overwhelming margin, with Watson still failing to adjust to the demands of playing as an specialist batter.
The final decision on Watson's continued all-round role will not hinge on his ability but the workload his body can withstand. For now, Watto is taking the process slowly and is still adamant to work towards full fitness in order to perform his duties with
the ball.
"The decision I made is more a longer-term decision to get some running and conditioning into my legs, so when I start bowling again, my body has more chance of handling it. I do appreciate the decision but it certainly reaffirmed to me that I'm never going
to give up bowling. It excites me having some input on the game, especially when what I do could have an influence on a certain part of the game."
"That thought has gone through my mind a few times but I suppose we do have to stay on course," Watson said. "There were reasons why I made that decision - to try and get my body conditioned enough to get back into my bowling."
Aussies will be hoping to level the series, when the second match starts this Saturday at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792.
