The Black Yellows’ president feels that acts of outrage from supporters have nothing to do with football, and he is happy with his side’s performance until the mid-season
Borussia Dortmund general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke has insisted that acts of violence from fans are issues of society and urged the politicians of the country to do something about it. He said that the game has not encouraged
these hooligans and will not tolerate them at the Signal Iduna Park.
The German police findings revealed that riots have increased by 120 per cent during the last 12 years, but the club official hit back at people asking the Bundesliga clubs to take all the responsibility of the unacceptable acts.
He claimed that problems lie within the society and it has no link with the game.
The CEO stated that fans get hurt in the incidents at Oktoberfest and that the display of fireworks should be banned as they are very dangerous. He further added that the BVB are in constant discussions with their supporters to
conclude a sound decision and try their best to talk them out of the overzealous celebrations.
"The issue is not within football itself. It is a society problem. There are more injuries [occurring due to riots] at Oktoberfest," he added.
"Pyrotechnics are an absolute no-go, because they are simply too dangerous. That is a fact. We are constantly in controversial and constructive discussions with our fans. We try to convince our fans," he mused.
The chief suggested that the Borussians have done well so far in the domestic campaign. He said that he was happy to draw against league leaders Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena. He stressed that they can match Der FCB’s quality.
"We are satisfied with the draw [against Bayern Munich], because we showed that we can keep up with them. However, we should not just talk about Dortmund and Munich. Bayern lost two points of their lead over Bayer Leverkusen,” he finally concluded.
Watzke conceded that this time around it is not just Dortmund and Bayern. He admitted that Bayer 04 Leverkusen can also mount a title challenge.
