Borussia Dortmund chairman, Hans-Joachim Watzke, has hailed players who have been selected for the German national team squad for the upcoming Euro 2012.
The Borussians successfully defended their Bundesliga title this season and won the German Cup to secure a first domestic double in the club’s history. The side’s sensational displays this season has earned five players a call-up
from Joachim Low for the national team squad for next month’s European championship.
Borussia Dortmund’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sven-Bender-c34386 and Ilkay Gundogan have been named in the provisional squad for the upcoming Euro 2012 whereas Marco Reus, who played for Borussia Monchengladbach last
season but will join Dortmund this summer, has also been included.
Watzke expressed his delight on the inclusion of the players and is confident that they will carry on with their stunning form this season to bring success for Die Mannschaft also. He insisted that the players have immense talent
and have a great opportunity to shine at the international stage this time.
“Players who are at BVB are outstanding in a sporting sense but they also possess personal qualities that can help the national side,” he was quoted as saying in an interview to Sports magazine, Bild.
The chief further added that the likes of Hummels, Gundogan, Bender, Schmelzer and Reus can play for any top club in Europe as they have exceptional talent. He admitted that Dortmund’s success in the last few years can be judged
from the fact that as many as six players have been named in the provisional squad for Europe’s premier international competition.
“Players such as Hummels, Gundogan, Gotze, Bender and Schmelzer could play for any big club in the world. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marco-Reus-c23733 would be our sixth player from the selection,” he concluded.
Borussia Dortmund have six players in the squad which is only second to Bayern Munich, who have an impressive eight names in the list whereas Schalke, Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid have two players in the provisional squad.
The final squad announcement will be made on May 29 in which 23 players will be selected and four will face the axe.
