Watzke stated that Smuda’s talk was taken out of context and that the coach did not mean what is being reported in the press. He added that Lewandowski has a great future at Signal Iduna Park and is confident that the player will
stay.
“I know Smuda very well and he has a high opinion of us and we have a high opinion of him. We talk a lot and I cannot imagine that he said what he said in the way it was reported. I don't care in any case. I don't know how often
we have got to stress that Robert Lewandowski will certainly be staying with us,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, the chairman stressed that Blaszczykowski also has no plans whatsoever to leave the side this summer. He added that the midfielder has been at the club for the past five years and has no reason to leave as he
is very happy.
“And 'Kuba' (Blaszczykowski) has been here five years and he is happy with what he has got here. I am confident that he will stay,” he concluded.
