Wavy, wirey, and 'poofy' hair...Help?

Question

I'm a 23 yr old white male and my hair is short, but very coarse and won't lay down. It's short, only about 1.5 inches. I can't spike it either because it's wavy in spots and straighter in others.

I use conditioner and shampoo. I use gel and sometimes wax, but it always looks bad. What can I use to smooth and straighten my hair?

Start with a good haircut. You may have to pay more but it will be worth it. An upscale salon will tell you what products work best for your hair.
