  1. If you want to take the train, Amtrak is the only way.

    SEPTA only goes as far south as Newark in Delaware, and MARC only goes as far north as Perryville, so you can't take those.  Amtrak is the only rail carrier that goes all the way from Philly to DC.

    Other options are only Bolt Bus and Mega Bus.

  3. To answer your question, Amtrak is your only viable option. I recently had to go to the Union Street Station in DC and Amtrak was the cheapest. Your only other option is to drive, but with gas prices how they are in the northeast right now an $80.00 roundtrip to DC via Amtrak is your best bet. Plus, you need to pay a $3-4 toll to cross into Maryland each way which is $6.00-8.00 roundtrip before you even consider gas, wear and tear, traffic, etc.

  4. Hop a box car.  Use a 2x4 or something to keep the door from sliding shut though.  Watch out for a guy named Willie.  He gets mean when he has had too much Sterno.
