Way to stop a s**y stranger walking by...?

Scenario:

You're walking down the street, and walking the opposite way (i.e towards you), is another person. You like the look of each other, then lock eyes. You smile, they wink; what next? Is there any way of stopping and talking to this person without looking stupid by completely changing direction or looking like a weirdo?

I say this as a person who doesn't like to wonder "what if?"

Honey, tackle him to the ground.

That will get his attention!

Did you ever stop to think he could be an axe murderer sizing you up as his next victim?

In all seriousness, unless you come to a screeching halt, say hello, engage him in captive conversation and wangle his phone number from him; there is little you can do but hope you see him on the same street at the same time again and again and again until one of you eventually speaks up!

The moral here is life is chock-a-block full of missed opportunities.
