Wayne Gretzky excited for Los Angeles Kings, drops puck in Game 3 of Stanley Cup Finals -NHL Update
Known as the Michael Jordan of the hockey world, Wayne Gretzky is excited to see that the Los Angeles Kings are on route to winning their first Stanley Cup championship in franchise history.
He also dropped the puck for Game 3 of the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Finals between New Jersey Devils and Los Angeles Kings at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, California.
One thing that has definitely surprised Gretzky is Kings playoff run so far which consists of just two losses in the past 16 matchups. They knocked out 2011 Stanley Cup finalists, Vancouver Canucks, in the opening round, dominated St. Louis Blues in the
next along with overtaking Phoenix Coyotes for Western Conference glory.
Kings are now just one game away from taking it all as they thrashed the New Jersey Devils with a 4-0 shutout on Monday, June 4, and are now on route to winning the Stanley Cup at home in Game 4.
"This team, right now, I've never seen anything like it. An eighth-place team, to get on a roll that they're on -- they're definitely right now the best team in the playoffs. They've proven that in the West. They've played two games where they win on the
road in the Finals in overtime. They have everything going right now. I honestly have not seen anything like this. But this has been great for the game of hockey and it's great for California of course here in L.A," Gretzky said.
This is the first time Kings are back in the Stanley Cup Finals since the 1992-1993 season in which Wayne Gretzky led them to the final stage but lost to the Montreal Canadiens in just five games.
Los Angeles Kings are playing better than ever and are certainly the favourites to take the series in a clean four-game competition. New Jersey Devils have been shocked by how good Los Angeles has been performing and there have been a number of reasons why.
Kings are set to take the title in Game 4 in Los Angeles on Wednesday, which will definitely be one not to miss in any circumstance.
