Derbyshire’s skipper, Luke Sutton, had absolutely no hesitation to bat first after winning the toss, as the pitch was perfect for batting. The weather was also perfect for cricket, as the sun was out and there were no signs of rain. However, the conditions
were a nightmare for the bowlers, as they had to put in a lot of effort to force the batsmen into making mistakes.
Madsen and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chesney-Hughes-c1233 opened the innings for their team and gave a solid start. They didn’t take any risk when the ball was new, but started to play fluently once it lost the shine.
The visitors’ opening pair put together 96 runs for the first wicket before Hughes lost his wicket. The 20-year-old left-hander played sensibly, scoring 57 runs off 81 balls with the help of eight fours. He would have liked to carry onto make a big one for
his team, but just a slight lapse of concentration cost him his wicket.
Hughes’ downfall brought the Pakistani born Australian batsman, Usman Khawaja, at the crease. The stylish left-handed batsman made his international debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in the Ashes in 2010 and impressed one and all with his technique and temperament.
Khawaja made most of the good batting conditions and constructed a brilliant century partnership along with Madsen. The pair amassed 231 runs for the second wicket and took the game away from the opposition.

Khawaja also made most of the conditions, scoring 135 runs before being dismissed. He timed the ball to perfection and was a treat to watch. The promising youngster struck 16 boundaries in his innings, but would be disappointed to lose his wicket in the
closing moments of the day.
