Wayne Odesnik trounces Diego Hidalgo in 1st round – Ciudad de Guayaquil Challenger 2011
Fifth seeded American Wayne Odesnik whitewashes Ecuadorian wildcard entrant Diego Hidalgo in the first round of the Ciudad de Guayaquil Challenger 2011.
On outdoor clay courts of the Guayaquil Tennis Club in Guayaquil, Ecuador, the two challengers skirmished against each other and after one hour and twenty five minutes, fifth seeded American bashed the Ecuadorian wildcard entrant by getting the best of him in straight sets of 6-3, 6-4 on Tuesday the 22nd of November 2011.
Odesnik took on an assertive style of play from the very beginning and he hit seventy percent of his first serves on target and achieved a seventy four percent of his first service points. Although, he was unable to save the single breakpoint on his serve, he capitalized on three breakpoints won.
During the first set he did not allow his opponent to break him as he did not setup a single breakpoint opportunity. Commencing the initial round was Odesnik and both the players continued to bag their respective games for the first six games to tie the score at three games each.
However, in the following three games, the fifth seed took a notch higher and utilized the serve-break-serve method to take the competitive edge by bagging the opening round with a 6-3 victory.
Inaugurating the second round of the match was Hidalgo and he got off to a bad start as he was unable to hold his service game. On the contrary, the fifth seed had reeled two successive games to take a mini lead of two games is to love.
However, in the following two games the Ecuadorian managed to make a comeback with a hold of serve in the third game and then by breaking back in the fourth game to tie the score at two games each and mitigate the deficit.
Subsequently, in the next two games the players held their respective serves and the score balanced out at three games each at the sixth game. It was in the seventh game that Hidalgo had double faulted on his second serve.
Mean while, Odesnik benefitted from the breakpoint and then held his serve to take the lead once again. This time he was only a game away from victory but was unable to clog the set immediately in the next game. Nonetheless, he managed to do so in the tenth game by restricting his opponent to only four games.
The fifth seed expertly reserved a spot in the second round and will be facing Argentinean Sebastian Decoud.
