http://www.senore.com/Cricket/WD-Parnell-c2787 not happy with South African batsmen – Cricket News Update
Wayne Parnell, the South African all-rounder, is not too happy with his side’s performance in the on-going One Day International (ODI) series against England but feels that the home team has played brilliantly and deserves all the appreciation.
With the last match scheduled to be played today at Nottingham, the Poms are leading the battle by two games to one.
Having won the Test series last month to be crowned as the world’s number one ranked team and also dismantling the hosts by 80 runs in the second ODI, the Proteas’ performance has gone down miserably.
Some of the sporting analysts have slammed South Africa’s decision to rest http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JH-Kallis-c1692, their premier all-rounder, for the all-important competition. They believe that his presence would have added some stability to their batting.
Parnell however, is of the opinion that ‘ifs and buts’ do not count much in cricket, and the side would have drawn criticism despite Kallis' presence, if the desired results were not attained.
"It's up for debate," said Parnell. "If he was here and we were two-one down, what would people be saying? Now he's not, people are questioning whether he should be here or not."
In the third and fourth ODIs, the visitors’ struggled to post competitive totals on the board despite getting good starts through http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HM-Amla-c1557, who has been performing exceptionally well on the tour (with 2 Test centuries and an ODI ton).
Parnell does not want to take anything away from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026 and company but he thinks that South African batsmen have let their team down in the ODI series.
"We just didn't score enough runs. Whatever it might be, if http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 have bowled well or we have batted poorly, is up for debate, it's probably a bit of both. But we have a pretty quality batting line-up, and I expect us to do better on Wednesday," he added.
The last 50-over fixture will be followed by three T20 Internationals, which should be great preparation for both the sides ahead of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 later this month.
