EA Sports have revealed which players made their Team of the Week based on the Player Performance Index for Week 10.
Before we begin, it would be wise to understand just what the Player Performance Index or PPI is and how it is calculated, so that when the reader finally sees the eleven players who made the weekly cut they understand the basis on which they were selected.
The PPI uses six factors in its calculations to determine which players were the best in a given week. They are Appearances, Goals Scored, Winning Performance, Player’s Performance per match, Assists and Clean Sheets.
It incorporates only those measures into its calculations which ‘work with proven statistical measurements’.
Moving on now to the Team of the Week:
Andres Lindergaard made the goal keeping position his own for the week with a total of 20 points earned. The back up to David de Gea in Manchester United’s talented line up, the keeper was given the nod ahead of his counterpart and repaid the faith shown
in him.
Gareth McAuley had a great game on the weekend for West Bromwich Albion and his 38 points has him as one of the picks of the week.
Former Manchester United defender, Wes Brown also made the cut with a fine performance for Sunderland and Zat Knight’s solid show for Bolton has him in the squad as well.
Chelsea’s Ashley Cole completes the back line as it was his assist which set up teammate Daniel Sturridge for his side’s equaliser in the crucial tie against Tottenham.
Coming to the midfield and another Sunderland player, Stephane Sessegnon’s brilliant display earned him a spot on the team, while Norwich City’s Ander Surman also made the cut.
The remaining four places were filled by players who ply their trade for their respective Manchester based clubs.
Ryan Giggs put in a vintage performance against Fulham and came away with the highest PPI of any player in the side with fellow United winger, Luis Nani, close behind.
Up front, Wayne Rooney, who currently tops the EA Sports overall PPI, added another 34 points to his tally with the kind of display that has been missing in recent matches.
Alongside him, wearing the sky blue shirt of bitter rivals, Manchester City is the Argentine sensation, Sergio Aguero who finished with the second highest points in this week (53).
All in all, there were a number of players who did not make the list as many will wonder where Ali Al Habsi, the Wigan Athletic goal keeper, who saved a Charlie Adam penalty to earn his side a crucial point, is. At the same time however, Lindergaard’s side
did win and that matters in the calculations as well.
Stay tuned for next week’s Team of the Week.
