Wayne Rooney being linked with Chelsea and Real Madrid
Rooney’s days at Manchester United are numbered, as he has shown signs of unsettlement. Recently, Rooney decided not to engage in talks with United, regarding his contract extension. After this news broke out, speculations started raising their heads, regarding
Rooney’s future at the club.
Now, the prospect of Webster ruling has made things difficult for Manchester United. Previously, United denied all the speculations surrounding Rooney, saying that Sir Alex Ferguson is still trying to protect his player from media abuse. However, Rooney
is interested in playing his football, which does not seem a big possibility if he stays at Manchester United. The English striker has his contract until 2012, but Webster ruling would allow him to leave Manchester United for a payment of £5 million, which
includes his final year’s wages and some compensation.
This whole drama started when Ferguson dropped Rooney in a match against Everton. At that point, news regarding Rooney’s ugly private affairs was circulating the media. Ferguson feared a fan abuse at Everton, Rooney’s former club, and he decided to protect
his player. However, the striker has not been able to make his way back into the team, ever since that incident.
In the latter matches, Ferguson said that Rooney was suffering from an ankle injury, an excuse to keep him out of the team. However, the striker denied any such incident, saying that he is fully fit to play his part. This claim was further proved when Rooney
played for the whole 90 minutes, for his English side. Despite of being fit, he was once again dropped in a match against West Bromwich Albion.
In short, the frustrations kept on building inside the player, who now feels disillusioned towards the club. Therefore, it is highly expected that Rooney would no longer stay at Manchester United, despite of their claims that he would remain at the club.
The top priority for Manchester United now, is to sell the player before he can make use of Webster ruling.
There are many clubs who would be interested in hiring Rooney’s services. However, whenever there is a talk about any big player, the first club which seems to make an offer is Real Madrid. Madrid’s interests in Rooney are not new, as he is being watched
ever since Florentino Perez came back into club’s presidency. Also, Cristiano Ronaldo declared his desire to sign Rooney as well.
However, Jose Mourinho thinks that he does not have a place for the English striker in his team. Therefore, Madrid has talked down the idea of any offers for the striker, who would now look towards other options. Despite of the claim by Mourinho, it must
be noted that at one point he was also talking about the lack of striking options in Real Madrid. Therefore, there are still chances that the Madrid’s manager would try to hire his services, if his current strikers face any kind of dilemma.
Another manager interested in signing Rooney is Carlo Ancelotti, the manager of Chelsea. Ancelotti said that the striker would be a great addition to his squad, and he would definitely follow him if he decides to leave Manchester United. At this point, Ancelotti
has Didier Drogba and Nikolas Anelka in his squad, but Rooney would provide him with extra bit of strength and pace at front, which would be supplementary to Chelsea’s current squad.
Now the point is whether Ferguson would really try to sell Rooney or not. Although, there are precedents where Ferguson did sell players, showing his disliking for their attitude, but there are also instances when the manager tried to persuade some players
against leaving. The important thing is whether Ferguson understands the importance of Rooney for United or not. If he thinks that he no longer requires the striker, then he would get rid of him in no time.
Nevertheless, it would be hard for United to please Wayne Rooney after the dramatic events of last two months. It would only be sensible for Ferguson to cash in the opportunity, rather than wasting further time. In this case, United’s fans would not be happy
in January, as supposedly their best player would be making his way out of the team.
