Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney believes it would be improbable to repeat Arsenal FC’s “Invincibles”.
The Gunners went without losing a game in the 2003/2004 season on their way to clinching the English Premier League title.
United are unbeaten in 16 matches in this season’s Premier League. However, the striker is of the opinion that his side will not be able to equal Gunners’ record.
The centre forward hinted that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 FC were the only team the Red Devils considered as a real threat to their bid to win back the Premier League crown.
He said, “It will be difficult to emulate Arsenal. If we did it would be a great achievement, but I think it's unlikely. However, I think if we finish above Chelsea at the end of the season we will win the league.”
The only team before Arsenal, to go without losing a match in a championship winning season was Preston North End, back in 1888-1889.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international also commented on his personal form, which has seen a slump after his return from an ankle injury. Rooney was out of action between October and November and missed 5 Premier League matches in his recuperation
process.
Wayne, who scored 34 goals in all competitions for United looks a shadow of his past self and has only netted in twice this season.
The 25-year-old was also the centre of controversy this season after scandals regarding his personal life came in public.
However, the striker feels hopeful he can repeat his last season’s form to help United recapture their domestic crown.
He said, “It hurt us a lot last year not winning it and we're hoping we can do that this year. I feel good and, of course, I am happy to be back. I have played in the last four games and the whole team has been playing well.
We are in a good position, we've managed to get to the top of the league so it's looking good at the minute.”
Wayne had a wonderful chance to score when he was handed the spot-kick duties in the match against Arsenal at Old Trafford.
Nonetheless, the talisman uncharacteristically spurned the opportunity and fired his shot above the crossbar.
The former Everton FC player, however, remained confident despite the dip in his personal form.
He also mentioned his desire to play for Manchester United for a long time after signing a lucrative contract with the English giants, this season.
