Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has dismissed claims that he could be leaving the club in the summer. The England international has committed his future to the Red Devils, stating that he would like to remain at Old Trafford for the rest of his playing
career.
Reports had suggested that Rooney was on his way out of Manchester United after the end of the current season of the Barclays Premier League, despite the fact that the striker had recently signed a five-year contract with the club. However, Rooney has dismissed
the reports as ‘rubbish’, claiming that he intends to honour his contract.
In fact, the England international has revealed that he is ready to devote his career to Manchester United, assuming that the club wants him to stay beyond his five-year contract.
Rooney said, “I saw (those reports), but I've never seen such rubbish in my life. My relationship with (manager) Sir Alex has no problems whatsoever. I'm enjoying my football here and if I was going to leave in the summer I wouldn't have signed a new contract
when I did.”
He added, “I've signed it and I intend to see it through to the end.”
However, reports linking the Manchester United striker to the club’s Premier League rivals are not entirely baseless. Rooney was determined to move elsewhere back in September, citing a lack of ambition for his desire to leave.
The transfer saga was finally resolved a month later, when Rooney was convinced to sign a new deal with the club. However, the entire incident has left a lasting impression on the United faithful.
The striker said, “I admit I made a mistake (by trying to leave the club), like I've said lots of times, by saying I wanted to leave but I've committed my future to United and I'm happy and my family are happy so there's no reason for me to want to move
elsewhere.”
He added that he wanted to win more trophies and bring greater success to the club.
Manchester United are currently on top of the Premier League standings, three points ahead of closest competitors Arsenal.
