Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has expressed his delight at scoring the winning goal during the Manchester derby at Old Trafford on Saturday night.
Rooney believes that his 77th minute strike was his best goal ever, and few would argue with that.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international’s match-winning volley will almost surely earn him the goal of the season award. Perhaps more importantly though, it earned the Red Devils all three points against their bitter cross town rivals Manchester City,
as they went on to win the match at Old Trafford 2-1.
The Manchester United striker, who is slowly but surely regaining his form after enduring a terrible start to the 2010-11 season, believes that the goal was the most spectacular one of his career.
Rooney said, “That is my best goal. It was such an important game and to score the winning goal in that way was a great feeling - indescribable. I have seen it again. I was just trying to keep my eye on the ball and to get a good connection. Luckily it went
into the top corner.”
Even City manager Roberto http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323 admitted there was nothing his side could do to stop Rooney’s blistering effort. He could only applaud the striker for his brilliant technique. The Italian will be bitterly disappointed with the result,
especially since he saw his side dominate long stretches of the match.
Mancini said, “I am very sorry for my players. They really didn't deserve to lose this game. When a fantastic player like Rooney scores a goal like this, you can only clap.”
The result means that Manchester City are almost surely out of the title race, leaving just http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and Manchester United to battle it out for the Barclays Premier League title. However, the Red Devils are now favourites to go on and win their 19th
Premier League crown, currently lying four points ahead of the Gunners.
Manchester United will face their next test against Crawley in the FA Cup, followed by a tricky away fixture against Marseille in the Champions League round of 16.
