Wayne Rooney gets the horse racing ‘picture’ after the colt, Pippy, loses the career debut at Chester
Manchester United striker, Wayne Rooney and his wife Coleen Rooney were expecting their investment to reap the benefits at Chester’s meeting but it turned out to be a bitter experience for the owners of the two-year-old bay colt, Pippy, who lost miserably in the career debut.
He lost and finished last in the seasonal debut on 9th May, in the Manor House Stables Lily Agnes Conditions Stakes at Chester over five furlongs. What sort of ground conditions might have suited him was almost impossible to find out during the career debut but the rain-softened ground might just have been one of the reasons that the two-year-old failed to please the connections.
Riding with Richard Kingscote, Pippy stayed in the rear throughout the race and never paced up.
The race was won by Jo Hughes’ trainee, All Fur Coat, who was riding with Franny Norton. It was the first of the two victories which the jockey struck, the next one being with Good Morning Star.
Just Past Andover was the 11/4 favourite runner up paired up with Kieren Fallon while taking up the third slot was Baddilini.
The reason that the young colt did not gear up could be the jockey’s effort to keep the already gruelling race easy for Pippy however, the rider made all the effort for the trip to be experience oriented for the colt.
In case Wayne Rooney was keeping hopes as high as Donald McCain then he needs to bear in mind that the hall mark and the Cheltenham champion trainer has put ages of effort and hard work into the horses that get him the titles that are the most envied by the horse racing industry.
Rooney said: "When I went down to the stables I was very impressed and I've got three horses there now. The name was just what my wife got called when she was younger."
The young owner should make the most out of the experience and channelise it positively and then only think of compatibility with the trainers and owners who have spent their life time in the field and have then become eligible for the far flung achievements.
The colt is young and can be trained for the better, besides that Wayne Rooney has other horses to concentrate on and to make sure that their career debuts are more pleasantly memorable.
