Wayne Rooney happy to score on first start since September
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney says that he was delighted to score in his first start for the English Premier League giants since September.
The 25-year-old netted the only goal of the game in the UEFA Champions League group stage victory over Scottish Premier League champions Rangers at Ibrox on Wednesday 24 November.
It was just his second goal in only eight appearances for Sir Alex Ferguson's side following an ankle injury he sustained in training in October.
The England international has not been playing at his best for several months and was criticised for his poor performances at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
However, he is now hoping that the poor run of form is behind him and is confident that he will soon find his golden touch again.
He told reporters: "Mentally I have been okay. Because the football has not been going well and other things have happened, everyone has put it down to not being mentally strong enough. But I am. Obviously the most important thing for me at the minute is
to play and score goals.
"People are saying how bad I have been playing but I haven't played enough games for my form to be a disaster. With everything that has happened, the reaction all goes a bit overboard. But I have been through patches before when I haven't played well and
come through them. I know 100 per cent I will come through this one."
Rooney will have his next chance to add to his goal tally for the season when United host Blackburn Rovers at Old Trafford on Saturday 27 November.
He made his return from his injury as a substitute in the 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic on 20 November, a result which moved United level on points with league leaders Chelsea.
