Wayne Rooney hints long term stay at Manchester United
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has spoken about his future plans and much to the joy of United faithful, has hinted a long term stay at Old Trafford.
Rooney made his 1st team appearance for the Red Devils after a successful recovery from an ankle injury that kept him on the sidelines for about 6 weeks. He came on as a 2nd half substitute
in the 2-0 home win against Wigan Athletic in the English Premier League.
It was a significant night for Wayne, as he featured in United colours for the first time after signing the lucrative 5 year contract with the club.
The English star was welcomed back to the pitch by the Red Devils’ fans. Rooney, who has been struggling with both form and fitness this season, admitted that he was not sure about what type of reception
he would get once he played in front of the home fans.
It was an overall positive reaction from the crowd, with some audible booing from corners of some sections. Some fans still believe Rooney’s transfer saga was nothing else but a move by the player to get
a pay-raise.
While expressing his views after the match, Wayne said, “I've been out for a long time, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about the reaction from the fans but the reception was brilliant and I just
tried to help the team win and score goals. It was brilliant. I can understand fans' frustrations with the contract negotiations; obviously it happened in the public eye which made it more difficult. But at the end of the day the main thing for myself and
the club is that we managed to agree that deal.”
It was reported that the striker’s negotiations about the new deal have caused unrest in the United dressing room. It was believed that some of his teammates had also questioned the striker’s loyalty to the
club.
However, Rooney denied such rumours and said, “I've signed a new deal to stay here and my long-term future is at Man United. The players have been fine. There's no problem whatsoever since the negotiations,
not before or after. The press have probably made a big issue out of nothing. I always made it aware I wanted to be at this club. I had my concerns and voiced my opinion but at the end of the day I'm delighted that my long-term future is at United. I want
to be here and to continue to make this club successful."
Rooney will be hoping to get back to his goal scoring best and win back the lost love between him and the United faithful.
