Wayne Rooney insists he is fit, reportedly halts contract talks
England striker Wayne Rooney has insisted that he is fully fit, adding that he felt ‘sharp’.
The forward had two golden opportunities to break the deadlock in England’s goalless stalemate against Montenegro in a UEFA 2012 European Football championship qualifying match on Tuesday (12 October),
but failed to convert. Rooney was then slated for his performance by several English tabloids on Wednesday, with a persistent ankle problem pointed to as the cause.
However, Rooney has revealed that he was satisfied with his display and said that he was fully fit.
He told Sky Sports News that: "I felt sharp. A couple of chances, maybe with the first I could have done better. The keeper made a good save with the second. I've been training for the last two
months and I haven't missed a training session so there's no problem with my fitness."
The 24-year-old has been struggling for form so far this term, with the effects of accusations about his private life and the ankle injury seemingly taking their toll on the Manchester United hitman.
Striker may move to La Liga

Meanwhile, Rooney is reported to have called a halt to talks over a contract extension at Old Trafford, prompting rumours that he might be on his way to La Liga.
The striker has a year and a half left on his current deal and news emerged over the summer that he was set to pen a deal that would see him boost his earnings to around £140,000 per week. The contract
is yet to be confirmed though, with the club’s owners bringing in a new policy saying that United would only complete new contracts in the last year of a player’s deal.
However, Spanish daily newspaper
AS said that Rooney has called a halt to the negotiations himself after becoming fed up of the constant attention being paid to his private life by the British press. That means that, with United unlikely to allow him to leave for free when his contract
expires, he may be sold to Barcelona or Real Madrid.
