Wayne Rooney on his way out of old Trafford?
Manchester United once again self destructed and ended up losing 2 points at the weekend against West Brom. However, that may not be the biggest worry for United fans after the weekend. There are huge speculations that their star striker Wayne Rooney has
hinted that he may be on his way out of Old Trafford. There is strong talk of him not willing to sign a new contract that he has been delaying for a while now.
There have been number of reasons speculated by the media regarding the reasons behind Rooney not willing to sign the contract. The current contract expires at the end of next season, and if latest reports in British media are to be believed then Rooney
is for sure going to leave Manchester United.
The reports published in one of the leading English newspapers the Guardian indicates that, the main reason behind Rooney wanting to leave is the breakdown in his relationship with Sir Alex. In early days the two shared a strong relationship and Ferguson
has always protected his most prized asset. Lately though due to Rooney’s off filed problems there has been a serious rift between the two, and the fact that English striker has also been off his game has not helped the situation. Ferguson has been quite strict
with Wayne and has also not picked him in some key games, which has fuelled the anger for the front man.
Even though Manchester United officially denied such claims by the media as "nonsense", recent developments have suggested that there may be more to the story than initially believed.
Wayne Rooney made it clear that he has no ankle injury after the goalless draw for England in Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro. Sir Alex had earlier stated that Rooney had been suffering from a reoccurrence of an ankle injury and that was the reason
for him to be left out of the team. Rooney though said that he has no such problems and he is fit to play, the statement obviously did not go down too well with the manager. In the Premier League weekend that followed Wayne was left out of the first XI and
made an appearance later from the bench. The facial expressions and body language from Rooney did suggest that all was not well between him and the manager.
Now Sir Alex has a problem at hand and would have to decide if he wants to keep taking the strict stance and play hard ball with Rooney, and hope that his player gets the message. Or he can sit down and have a detailed talk with the 24-year-old.
Come what may if Wayne does decide to leave it would leave a big whole at Old Trafford, but Ferguson would have to act quick to name a successor. There have been few whispers that Fernando Torres may be the man to take Rooney’s place. And even though a move
for the Spaniard from Liverpool may be a stretch, but looking at the current state of Reds it may not be a bridge too far.
Up till now Ferguson has avoided giving any strong public statements against Rooney, but leaving him out against West Brom was a strong statement. The next match for Manchester United is in the Champions League against Turkish champions Bursaspor. Wayne
Rooney has to be on the list for the starting line up, if he is not then there is certainly something wrong. However if Rooney starts and manages to score, things may settle down to some degree.
So the next match may be one of the most important one for Manchester United, Sir Alex and for Wayne Rooney. The fans would hold their breath until they see the starting line up on Wednesday to determine what future holds for their beloved Wayne Rooney.
