Wayne Rooney out for three weeks
Manchester United striker, and England International, Wayne Rooney will be sidelined for up to three weeks with an ankle injury.
The news comes as a blow to the struggling striker who was already left out of the lineup for United's Champions League match away to Valencia on Wednesday night, but the blow will also hit the English national side hard as they prepare for a Euro Championship
qualifier on Oct. 12 against undefeated Montenegro.
Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson hopes Rooney will be back in the fold sooner rather than later, "It will be two to three weeks," he said. "But it depends because Wayne has done quite well with his recovery from injury in the past."
Rooney has been out of form since the start of the season and has managed only one goal. He has managed to continue to steal the headlines, though, even if it is for all the wrong reasons as Rooney's named turned up in the tabloids recently for his alleged
affair with a prostitute. Only a few weeks into the season and both Rooney's ankle and his pride must be a little sore.
It's been a difficult start to the season for United who are desperately clinging to second spot in the English Premier League. They could only manage a draw in their first Champions League match of the season against Scottish side Glasgow Rangers and now
have to take on Spanish powerhouse Valencia. Manchester United have struggled in recent seasons against Spanish opposition, and injuries like the one to Rooney, won't make things any easier for them.
Manchester United will also be without the services of veteran midfielder Paul Scholes who is out with a calf injury.
Besides Rooney, England will also be without the services of Frank Lampard, Jermain Defoe, Theo Walcott
and Bobby Zamora who are all out with injuries.
