Wayne Rooney ruled out for three weeks
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has been diagnosed with an ankle concern and has been ruled out of the action for at least three weeks. The 24-year-old recently signed a 5-year contract with the club after months of speculations.
The player suffered a bad tackle by teammate Paul Scholes and was taken off the training pitch at Carrington on a stretcher. At the time, Rooney hadn’t signed a contract and had expressed his desire to leave the club owing to lack of investment and assurances
by the owners. The manager while talking to the radio station Key 103 has confirmed that the striker would be out for 3 weeks, and wouldn’t be available up till mid-November.
However, the injury has backed the reports of manager Alex Ferguson and contradicted those of Rooney himself. A few weeks earlier, Ferguson stated to the press that Rooney had suffered an ankle concern while playing against Bolton and thus sat out fixtures
against Valencia and Sunderland. Rooney, however, made full comeback for the International oufit, but contradicted the statement of the manager by claiming he never had any issues with his ankle the entire current season. United may well be without the 24-year-old
for this season’s first Manchester Derby, which is scheduled to be played on November 10th.
The three-week injury lay off means that Rooney would miss Champions league clash against Bursapor this week, as well the Carling Cup knockout match against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Rooney would also miss Premier league games against Stoke City, Tottenham
Hotspurs and Wolves as well.
After a month long saga between him and the United management, Rooney finally put pen to paper and signed a 5-year contract, which would keep him at the club up till 2015. It was huge news for the fans and the club as the club’s best player committed his
long term future with the club. With Rooney, it was impossible for United to keep firm in the title race. Rooney scored 34 goals last season and was considered to be one of the best players on the planet. His first touch finishes and remarkable aerial ability
proved too much for the opposition and decimated almost all oppositions at will. Rooney scored 4 goals against Hull City last season, which was the best performance by him. The English star’s 34-goal haul was his career’s best and is considered to be one of
the very best centre forwards in the game.
