Wayne Rooney to feature in the Community Shield match against Chelsea: Manager Sir Alex Ferguson
Red Devil’s manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Wayne Rooney would play the upcoming Community Shield match against Chelsea, which is to be played on August the 8th. The manager added that Rooney would be in better form and shape by the time the new season of the EPL commences. Manchester United play Newcastle United at home in their opening match which is to be played on August 16th. The striker returned to training only six days ago, owing to the prolonged post World Cup break and recently featured in a pre-season friendly against Airtricity League XI. Rooney failed to score in his club’s 7-1 thrashing of the side, despite getting two opportunities in front of goal. The 24-year-old played the opening half of the match and was substituted at half time. These were the strikers first minutes after the humiliating World Cup campaign where he failed to score a single goal in four appearances for his country.
The English international was recently seen smoking and behaving inappropriately in public, which was caught on camera. However, Sir Alex Ferguson slammed concerns regarding the striker’s current form and claimed that Rooney will be back in full form. Ferguson stated that Rooney still has time for improvement and would shrug off the poor form when he plays the Community Shield match as well as England’s friendly against Hungry. The manager however refused to comment about Rooney’s private life. While taking to the press, Manchester United’s manager stated the striker resumed training only six days ago and still impressed everyone at the camp. Ferguson added that the Wayne Rooney will need more training and preparation before he can play a full ninety minute match but confessed that the striker will play the Community Shield match.
""He has only been training for six days but he impressed me”, stated the Red Devil’s manager.
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has one of the most impressive seasons of his career last season. The striker scored 34 goals for the Reds in all appearances and was the mainstay behind United’s second place finish in the Barclay’s Premier League last season. The 24-year-old was unstoppable whenever he had the ball in front of the goal and tormented all that came in front of him. The player scored 4 times in the two legged Round of 16 tie with AC Milan, which boasts one of the strongest defences in Europe. His goals led to United defeating the Italian giants for the first time in history.
The striker was unstoppable, but was injured during the latter half of the season. The striker played in pain for the love of his club and was the inspiration behind the club. Manchester United sold two of its top players last season in the form of 2008 Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentinean striker Carlos Tevez. Rooney, however, didn’t let his club miss the players and was outstanding for the Red Devils.
Great things were expected from the player when he wore the England shirt in the 2010 FIFA World Cup and many tipped him to be the best player of the tournament. That was not to be, as a drained and off colour Wayne Rooney was seen in an England outfit. The player was seen frustrated and out of shape who couldn’t find the net, despite playing four times in South Africa. England’s hopes were on the shoulders of Wayne Rooney who failed to deliver at the right time. England crashed out of the World Cup, owing to a 4-1 thrashing by Germany in the knockout stages.
Red Devil’s fans and supporters would be hoping that the England international finds his top form soon and scores goals like he did last season. Wayne Rooney is rated amongst the top players of the world and would want to get his head straight in time for the new season.
