Manchester United’s ace striker has vowed to make up to the club’s fans after missing the penalty kick against Arsenal just a week ago at Old Trafford.
The spot kick miss was did not prove to be a vital one as United still went onto win the match after a tense last ten minutes against Arsene Wenger’s side. It was a fantastic win for the Red Devils who face Chelsea in their next league encounter. Sir Alex
Ferguson’s team is already at the top of the English League table and they still have a game in hand to cater for any loss of points that may occur at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Rooney made his return for United from a recurring ankle injury last month but he has not been firing on all cylinders at the moment. The striker is still finding his feet as the English Premier League enters the hectic holiday schedule. Manchester United’s
fans will be hoping that their star striker will be able to step up to the mark against Chelsea in their next Premier League encounter. Following United’s 1-0 win over Arsenal, Rooney was quizzed by several newspapers about the possibility of taking a penalty
against Chelsea if the chance arose for United.
The Englishman responded in emphatic manner as he stated, "Of course I'll take a penalty at Chelsea if I get the chance. I have no problems with that. I know players miss penalties and I'm just hoping the next one I will score.”
He added, "Dimitar Berbatov and I have been working on the training ground to work closer, play more one-twos and play a bit quicker. It worked really well in the Blackburn game, when we won 7-1, but we only had one up front against Arsenal, so you have
to alter the way you play sometimes."
Rooney was plagued by contract troubles in late October and early November as he announced that Manchester United did not match his ambition as a footballer, however, the striker quickly turned on his own words as he signed a new 5-year contract at Old Trafford.
Speaking about Manchester United’s fans, Wayne Rooney said, "It has been a hard few months for me and the United fans with what happened, but they have been brilliant. They can see the desire. I have got to play and win."
