Wayne Rooney’s Pippy to compete in the Manor House Stables Lily Agnes Conditions Stakes
Wayne Rooney’s success in football does not seem to be enough for him, as he recently became the owner of Pippy, the two-year-old colt, who has yet to compete in his career maiden.
The son of Exceed And Excel, out of mare Gandini, is under the training of Tom Dascombe, who is optimistic about the runner’s future, but he is not expecting the colt to score in his first start.
The horse is in good hands and is based at Manor House Stables in Cheshire, which is partly owned by Michael Owen, Rooney’s colleague in Manchester United.
Pippy is one of the three horses that Rooney and his wife Coleen purchased.
The bay colt will compete in the Manor House Stables Lily Agnes Conditions Stakes, which is scheduled to take place at Chester on 9th May, 2012, where he will be mounted by rider, Richard Kingscote.
The trainer told the press that:
"Pippy is fine. He's quite a nice little horse, but we're obviously throwing him in at the deep end. We couldn't be sure Pippy would get in the maiden later in the week, so we'll try him in the Lily Agnes and see what happens.
"The draw is obviously all important and he isn't drawn badly (stall five). He'll be doing his best and if he doesn't win, I'm sure he'll win a maiden in the not too distant future."
Rooney’s other runner, Tomway, who is also trained by Dascombe will be making his career debut on 10th May, 2012, where he will compete in the Equestrianartuk.com E B F Maiden Stakes at Chester, coupled with rider, Robert Winston.
Dascombe is not pleased with the post position, out of which Tomway will be breaking out of.
The son of Sakhee´s Secret, out of mare Mi Amor, will emerge from post 11, which is not a bright prospect. The trainer said that this is a “shocking draw” as the runner is likely to struggle from there onwards.
The trainer feels that with practice and time, the horse will be able to secure a victory and develop his potential.
