I need some ideas for this story I am writing. I have a plot but I am missing two things: Characters, and how the girl in my story gets trapped in the magical world!

I need a dark, twisted, or interesting way for her to get there.

Falls down a well? Gets lost in woods? Runs Away? Please Help me! :D Thanks!

  1. SO many stories have the person stumble into something have them maybe hear about a place in a story and then just go there out of random curiosity

  2. It's not my favorite premise, but it's been done a lot. I think the most interesting was buying the fantasy world, in Terry Brook's Magic Kingdom of Landover series. In Jerry Jay Carroll's Dog Eat Dog the protagonist is summoned by a spell from our world into the body of a dog in the fantasy world. It's not written very well, but it's entertaining and the premise is original, but it would limit you.

Your best bet is to try to think of something completely original. It needs to be coherent with the rest of the plot to be plausible so if anyone's random suggestion fits, it will be entirely by chance.

  3. Have her be pulled under water and be near drowning when she sees a light and swims towards it. She comes to the surface of a pond, but in a different world.

Her friends dare her to go into a 'haunted house' where people go in and never go out. She goes in and finds herself in another world.

She jumps off a building and suddenly sees lights flashing before her and then she is transported into a different world.

She opens her grandma's forbidden cookie jar. =]

Just think of anything, everything! Think of every day things. Like opening the fridge or going into your basement for an old tent to go camping or flushing the toilet. Anything that could transport you into another world if it was possible.

  4. Throughout various fantasy tales, the main character often "stumbles" into the magical world (best example would be The Chronicles of Narnia series).

I recommend then touching some object of significance, or accidentally walking through something.

  5. she's camping out, and hears a noise at night, goes wandering, finds a cave, with light coming out from it, she goes in, and walks inner and inner, and then get lost, and finds herself in the world.

  6. Do you know what a dance is? In case not, it is like Stonehenge. There are TONS of them, only most are on a smaller scale. Most of the the time they are used to represent security or safety, but you could have the girl find one that feels wrong. That seems dark or disenchanted. Vines on it...so on. She steps through it or perhaps is pushed into it. Just thought I would add my two cents.

  7. She goes into a colossal museum like to Met (in NYC) or the V and A (in London) she takes a wrong turn though an un marked door and poof, she's in some sort of other place.
