Ways of entertaining pet rats?

i've had my 2 pet rats for almost a year now and they seem bored as they dont explore the room they are kept in like they used to a few months ago, i was wondering if anyone had any good ways/ things for entertaining them

i've given them a shoe box but what are other good ways of keeping them busy? please help
